Location of filming

We were first thinking of doing our filming on the South bank of London Bridge behind the building of 'Butler's Wharf' as there are many tight dark alleys. However, many people seem to be walk between this way towards the station of which would of been difficult in filming as people would of been in the way. 

Moreover, as our film is based on a London gang, Aldgate seemed to be our suitable location. In-comparison to South bank, this area seemed to have less people wondering around but of which contained more alley ways. Walking towards Aldgate East station, I noticed an alley way that was unlit and empty. This seemed like the appropriate place to start and test our filming as it suited our setting for which we had in mind for our sequence. 

Our filming sequence ends with the main character (Clinton) running onto a train in an underground and away from the runners. Although at first we was thinking of filming this sequence in Aldgate Station, we    decided to go with Aldgate East Station as it was closer, it being next door to the alley way (where we did our filming). 

Initial Ideas

Filming Location:

Our storyline is a typical British crime genre of which is set in the city near Tower Hill. We will be shooting our sequence outside between dark hidden alleys between buildings to create mystery and to reflect the negativity of the gang culture by the use of dark lighting and isolation. Callum will be taking pictures of the location we will be filming and soon place it onto the blog.

Sound:

Within our whole sequence the only diegetic sound that will be heard is the sound of Ugurcan (the main character) heavily breathing. Within the sequence, diegetic sound of music will be played through-out. We will be getting our music from youtube of which will be UK urban to reinforce the setting of the sequence.

Timing: 

Although our sequence is 2 min long, we will be filming our sequence from the morning and through out the day in order to get and achieve the right shots that are needed. We would prefer if the weather is cloudy because it will contribute to the darkness of the alleys between the building. 

Actors:

Clinton: 18 yrs of age 

Costume - Tracksuit, hoody, trainers and black gloves. 

Make-up - Fake blood (food colouring) will be used. 

Personality - Mysterious, innocent, Outcast    

Ugucan and Callum: The two guys running after the main character (Clinton).

Title:

Within our title sequence the production name and name of the cast and crew, as well as the title of the film, will be included within  the opening. The texts will be in white shown onto a black background. Special effects may be used for the main title to make it look good and professional. 

Shooting:

Through-out our filming, we will be filming a video diary of the process of which Ugurcan and Callum will be both doing between each other. This will include the directing, filming and acting to show how we filmed the title sequence. Our actual filming will be running for 2 min, of which will be handheld to involve the audience in the fast action to keep them interested.  Mellow is the main camera guy for our sequence and he'll be using a Nikon SLR camera. The reason we are using this instead of the 'Panasonic HDC SD10' (the college camera) is because we want to have good quality viewing while watching our opening sequence. 

Sound:

Apart from the non-diegetic sound of heavy breathing, diegetic sound of UK Urban music will be played through-out. This will be fast and heavy sound to emphasise the speed of the opening sequence. We will be getting the music from www.youtube.com.

Storyline:

Through-out Ugurcan's teens in the east end, Ugurcan was pushed into the life of the gang culture and forced to do things he never imagined of doing. He now has had enough and wants out of this aggressive lifestyle to live an ordinary but successful life. This is a typical urban British Film.

Editing:

Although we all will be taking part of the editing, George will be in charge of the editing on 'Adobe After Effects CS5' and 'Adobe Premier Pro CS5'. This will be all done on a Apple MAC in college.

Preliminary Task

Within our preliminary task we were set to film a person walking into a room and having a conversation with someone else and then walking out again. We were also told to film a shot reverse shot between the conversation. Although this didn't take us long to make, we were paying close attention to the way we were filming the shot reverse shot by the use of an over the camera shot. This wasn't so easy as the actors were moving a lot whilst they were speaking. However, after a few retake's, we got what we wanted in the end. 

After filming, George transferred the footage onto the MAC computer then editing it with 'Adobe Premier Pro CS5'. George only took 20 minutes editing the footage all together as he has past experience with working on this program.

Sample 6 - 'Men in Black'

Although this movie has fast editing and quick cuts, similar to the other sample's, this one includes a lot of interaction between the actors and its setting just like 'District 13' does. 

Sample 5 - 'Run Lola Run'

Although part of this clip has been cut and placed together, all of the running scenes use fast and short editing within each frame to exaggerate the speed at which the girl runs. We also like the use of different camera angles such as the low angle shot, evaluating her power as she runs, the establishing shot and close-ups to express her emotion of which is influenced by the use of slow motion. 

Sample 4 - 'Casino Royale' (chase scene)

This scene is effective in exaggerating the action of the running scene. our team particularly like the Interaction of the actors with the setting and props such as the way the actors move (Parkour style).

Sample 3 - '28 Weeks Later'

After the opening sequence of '28 Weeks Later' the main character (above) is being chased by zombies as he runs for his life. The camera is handheld, the editing is quick and non-diegetic music is played that does well in raising the tension of whether he'll make it away or not. This does well in keeping the audience interested as 'we' want to know what happens next.

Sample 2 - 'District 13' - The Chase

Although this scene is not the opening sequence of the movie, I think its an excellent scene to look as it gives our team an insight into the camera angles and speed of editing of which we can put into practise as we film our running scene. This should not be so different to our one as we film a gang running after one person.

Sample 1 - 'Zombieland' Opening Sequence

Our team looked at the opening sequence of 'Zombieland'. Although the sequence seems very simple in people running followed by zombie's, we particularly liked the slow motion effect and the make up of the zombie's. The title sequence was also affective in the title opening because it moves as the actors engage with it.
